THE TNVR INITIATIVE
What We’re Doing & Why It Matters
This video focuses on the community cats who are still living in the Agafay Desert, including Zahra’s mother, who had her third litter by around 1.5 years old. Her experience isn’t unusual. When cats don’t have access to spay and neuter care, they can become pregnant again and again in a very short period of time.
The Zahra TNVR Initiative was created to help stop this cycle through humane Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR). TNVR means cats are safely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and then returned to the area they already call home. This allows them to live healthier lives without being relocated or separated from their territory.
By highlighting the cats who were not rescued, this video explains why access to basic veterinary care like spay and neuter, vaccinations, and treatment for common medical issues is so important. TNVR is one of the most effective ways to reduce suffering and support stable, healthier community cat populations in Morocco.

Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Return is a globally recognized, humane approach to managing community cat populations.
Rather than relocating cats or allowing unchecked breeding, TNVR focuses on prevention, health, and long-term stability.

Without intervention, cats continue to reproduce in difficult conditions. Kittens often do not survive, and adult cats face injury, illness, and competition for limited resources.
TNVR:
Prevents future litters
Reduces fighting and disease
Improves overall health
Creates safer conditions for surrounding communities

This initiative focuses on the area where Zahra was found and where unmanaged community cats continue to live with minimal access to veterinary care.
The visibility created by Zahra’s rescue highlighted a broader need. This initiative is a direct response to that need.
-
Our initial goal is to TNVR approximately 15 to 20 community cats through a coordinated veterinary effort.
Stabilizing the population may also create potential adoption opportunities for especially social or vulnerable cats when appropriate.
-
The initiative is carried out in collaboration with:
ADAN, a Moroccan animal welfare organization
Dr. Abderrahmane Lamrini, licensed veterinarian performing all TNVR procedures
Local volunteers assisting with humane trapping and transport
All care is provided locally, ethically, and responsibly.
Direct Donations -Choose Your Impact
Your donation supports TNVR for Zahra’s colony and beyond — funding sterilizations, vaccinations, and aftercare for cats who would otherwise go without medical care.
Together, we’re stopping the cycle and creating lasting change.
